Albany-area officials on Friday morning unveiling the “renaming” of South Pearl Street in downtown Albany after the Jonas Brothers.

“Jonas Brothers Way” will span South Pearl Street from Beaver Street to Hudson Avenue.

The band, who have reunited after a six-year break for the release of their new album Happiness Begins, will play the Times Union Center on Aug. 19. The band last played the arena in 2008.

None of the brothers were in attendance for the unveiling on Friday.

This is not the first time South Pearl Street has been “renamed.” In 1999, the street was named Firebirds Lane after the Albany Firebirds won the 1999 ArenaBowl championship.

Although the “renaming” is temporary, Albany-area history whiz Albany Archives had a different take:

What do you think of the “renaming”?
