Next up in our ongoing holiday Q-and-A: Assemblyman John McDonald. If you are regularly out and about in the Capital Region, you’re bound to have run into this Cohoes Democrat, who seems (along with several of his fellow elected officials) to be everywhere at once.
If you need more information on the former Cohoes mayor and local pharmacy owner, check out his recent “20 things you don’t know about me” TU feature.
1. What one thing would your holiday be incomplete without?
“The food! Cinnamon pull-apart bread and egg nog being the highlights.”
2. Share your favorite holiday memory or gift you received/gave.
“One of the more interesting holiday memories is from Christmas 2002. That year there was a major snowstorm that left about two feet of snow. Mrs. Deep was visiting her son who lives down the street from us and somehow ended up getting stuck under her son’s red Saab as he was trying to get out the driveway. The Cohoes Fire Department arrived to save the day and shovel Mrs. Deep out. I should add that she was perfectly fine and I talked to her last week. We laugh about it now, but it was not a laughing matter then.”
3. If you could have one person living or dead at your holiday table, who would it be and why?
“My friend Sean Casey. I never knew where he was coming from or where he was headed, but he made me laugh, cry, and think. His wit and wisdom made him the ideal guest at any table, along with his propensity for bringing sweets everywhere he went. Miss that guy!” (Editor’s note: Me too).
4. What’s at the top of your list to give and/or get this year?
“Not a physical gift, I just wish we as a society could all learn to respect each other and be open to each other’s thoughts and opinions, even when they differ from our own.”
5. What’s your wish for 2020?
“Infrastructure funding. A large transportation budget renewal for upstate New York to fix our roads and bridges!”
